How to apply contact lenses correctly – three simple steps

1.Wash your hands

It is important to make sure you have clean hands before touching your eyes or contact lenses.Use plain soap and then rinse and dry to make sure there is no dust, lint, germs or make-up.It is a good idea to always put your contact lenses on in the same order, e.g. starting with the right eye. This way, you won’t get your lenses mixed up.

2.Make sure the lens is not upside down

Place one on your index finger and check that it’s on the right side – to do this, simply place the flashlight on the tip of your finger and hold it up to the light. If the ends are opening outwards, it’s upside down. If it looks like a cup with smooth edges, it’s ready to use. Then after you have cleaned the lens with some liquid you are ready to apply it.

3. The application

With one hand, gently hold the upper eyelid so as not to blink . With your free hand, with the lens on the tip of your finger, use the other fingers of the hand doing the application to pull down your lower eyelid. Keep your hand steady and look up as you apply the lens to your eye. Then slowly release your eyelid and close your eye momentarily to get the lens in place. Repeat for the other eye.
